The Harp’s a Breeze team proudly offers one of the most exciting Australian school incursions, designed specifically for the education system. These incursions teach students all about the complexities of our favourite little instrument, the blues harmonica.
With direct links to the Australian Curriculum, students embark on an exciting journey through harmonica-based aural & rhythmic games, and the harmonica’s simplicity allows every student to build their musicality with rapid progression.
Our exercises incorporate deep-breathing techniques which prove to be extremely beneficial for the health and well-being of students.
Put simply, our school incursions rock.. and yes, every student receives their own brand new blues harmonica, FOR KEEPS!
Did you know: Many years ago the harmonica was once an important part of music education in Australian schools. Due to its affordability and accessibility, every child could play. Our aim is to reintroduce it into the Australian curriculum and bring it back to life!
Incursion Details & Curriculum-Linked Activities:
1 new 10-hole blues harmonica in the key of C for each student
Educational harmonica incursion 1 hour in duration
Harmonica melody booklet to continue developing skills after the workshop
Development of aural skills through pitch identification
Rhythmic training and dance
Dynamics within songs
Development of technical & expressive instrumental playing
Application of tempo in music
Deep breathing exercises
Simple melodic reading exercises
Group melody rehearsals with fun and familiar tunes

The incursion provides a long-lasting musical activity for students/schools as instruments are easily implemented into classroom settings
